andalusia_emblem

Andalusia consists of eight provinces:
Almeria, Cadiz, Cordoba, Granada, Huelva, Jaen, Malaga and Seville.

Capital: Seville

Andalusia is the area of highest population in Spain and the second largest in area.  It has varied landscapes and a benign climate with 3000 hours of sun per year.  There are many kilometres of sandy beaches and natural ports.  The coast of Huelva and Cadiz are on the Atlantic Ocean coastline which is characterised by fine sand. The Mediterranean coast, from the Straits of Gibraltar to Almeria, on the other hand offers a calmer climate with less wind and higher water temperatures. Andalusia is crossed by the Guadalquivir River as well as the high mountain ranges of Sierra Morena and Sistemas Beticos.  Andalusia is also home to the Doñana National Park.  It is an area of moving dunes as well as marshy regions valuable for its fauna and is located next to the outlet of Guadalquivir River.  Other areas important for breeding species of migrant birds, on their way from Eurasia to Africa, is Matalascañas, Acebuche and El Rocio.

Cities:

Seville: The Andalusian capital, the third largest city in Spain.  Places to see here are the Arabian bell tower Giralda, the cathedral Torre Del Oro, and the old district Barrio Santa Cruz.

Ronda: A beautiful town, surrounded by an impressive mountain range.

Almeria: Some of the best preserved Moorish cities can be found here.   The coast of Costa de Almeria is also a great tourist attraction.
